Snoop Dogg gets Eminem super high and into the metaverse at 2022 VMAs

Slim Shady and Snoop DO Double G just brought the Otherside metaverse to the MTV Video Music Awards.

Eminem, 49, and Snoop Dogg, 50, performed “From the D 2 The LBC” off of Em’s second greatest hits album, “Curtain Call 2,” which came out Aug. 5.

The real-life duo started the performance sitting on a couch with Snoop smoking a huge cannabis blunt. Em appeared to get a second-hand high and both dazed into the metaverse.

The futuristic performance mirrored the music video for the song. Directed by James Larese, the two real-life legends periodically morph into Bored Ape NFT-like characters.

The pair rapped much of the performance as the apes before Slim Shady came to, realizing he was at the VMAs.

According to Otherside’s website, it’s a “gamified, interoperable metaverse currently under development. The game blends mechanics from massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs) and web3-enabled virtual worlds.”

“Think of it as a metaRPG where the players own the world, your NFTs can become playable characters, and thousands can play together in real time,” the description continued.

Meanwhile, just before the show, the official social account for Marshall Mathers debuted the duo’s Bored Ape NFT editions — dropping tomorrow.

This was Eminem’s first VMA performance in 12 years. The last time he showed up was in 2010 to do “Not Afraid” and “Love the Way You Lie” with a red-headed Rihanna.

Em is the second most-nominated artist in VMAs history, trailing only Madonna with 69 nods. He has won 13 awards, making him one of the top five artists with the most Moon Persons.

Sunday also marked Snoop’s first return to the VMA stage since 2005 when he performed with Sean “Diddy” Combs and the Notorious BIG The “Gin and Juice” stoner has three Moon Persons to his name and 13 all-time nominations.

The icons also joined forces at the Super Bowl Halftime show in February alongside Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar.

Eminem quickly made headlines for his “Colin Kaepernick-style” kneeling during the performance — which was said to have angered the NFL, but the organization denied having any issue with his choice.

Other 2022 VMA performers include co-hosts Nicki Minaj and Jack Harlow, Bad Bunny from Yankee Stadium, Blackpink, J Balvin, Lizzo and Panic! at the Disco and more.
