Two children and a woman have been left with serious injuries following a collision on a country road in Warwickshire this morning. The crash involved two cars and a school bus.
Emergency services were called to Campden Road, in the small village of Clifford Chambers, a few miles south of Stratford-upon-Avon at 8.13am today.
Images from the scene show the bus sitting partially off the road on a small grassy bank, with the front window caved in and bodywork from the bonnet missing.
Paramedics found that the two boys and a woman had become trapped inside their car and had sustained injuries that required immediate attention.
They were freed from the wreckage with the help of fire crews.
Warwickshire Police said in a statement this afternoon that the three had been traveling in a VW Golf.
The boys were airlifted to Birmingham Children’s Hospital so that they could be treated at its major trauma centre.
Meanwhile, the woman was taken to University Hospital Coventry by ambulance.
Three children among those who had been traveling on the bus were described as “walking wounded”, with the bus driver and 30 schoolchildren getting off the bus with minor injuries.
West Midland Ambulance Service (WMAS) said two ambulances, two paramedic officers, the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance and Midlands Air Ambulance had attended the scene.
A spokesperson for the ambulance service said: “When ambulance staff arrived, they found a double decker bus and two cars which had been involved in a serious collision.
“Three occupants from one car, two boys and a woman, were trapped and upon assessment by ambulance staff were found to have sustained serious injuries.
“The team of medics worked closely with fire colleagues to carefully extricate all three patients from the vehicle.
WMAS said that by the time paramedics arrived, “the bus driver and 30 school children were off the bus and safe and well, seeking shelter in a nearby building.”
The three children who had been on the bus and had sustained minor injuries were assessed on the scene before being discharged.
Warwickshire Police is now appealing for witnessed following the horrific crash.
It added that road closures had been in place in the area while the emergency services were in attendance.
Anyone who witnessed the collision or may have any relevant information has been asked to contact the force, quoting incident number 57 of today’s date.
